Plan ahead with our packing list. Here's everything you'll need for your Hawaii road trip with Shaka Guide. Remember, our tours give you the freedom to explore on your own terms - this packing list is designed for travelers visiting every attraction on the tour!
Sneakers
Our tours feature multiple hikes. Many of them are considered easy to moderate, but sneakers will still be more comfortable. Of course, these hikes are optional.
Hiking Clothes
If you’re planning on hiking, bring clothes that you feel comfortable walking in. We recommend comfortable pants or shorts and a t-shirt or tank top! You can also bring a hat and sunglasses.
Water Bottle
Whether you’re hiking, swimming or just driving -- be sure to bring a water bottle for the ride. If you bring a reusable bottle, there are a bunch of places to refill it. Between the hiking, swimming and exploring you'll want to stay hydrated.
Bug Spray
Some of our tours feature jungle hikes and if you're planning on doing any of these, we recommend you pack some bug spray. More greenery means more mosquitos!
Towel
Our tours visit the best beaches in Hawaii! Whether you plan on visiting all of them or just one, take some time to sit in the sand and enjoy the beauty of the islands' shores.
Bathing Suit
The turquoise water of Hawaii's beaches will tempt you to go in for a swim. And we highly suggest you do! The beaches in Hawaii are some of the best in the world.
Sandals
You can wear your sneakers on the beach, but if you want to feel the warm sand on your toes, sandals will do the trick!
Change of Clothes
Because no one wants to sit in the car in a wet bathing suit. If you’re worried about where you’ll change, most of the beaches along the tour route have public restrooms.
Sweater, Sweatshirt or Layers
Some of our tours visit different altitudes or areas with microclimates. If you're taking a tour that visits spots like Haleakala, Volcanoes National Park or Mauna Kea you'll want to pack layers. Sure, you're in a tropical paradise, but temperatures in these spots can dip down into the 50's.
Sunscreen
Unless you’re planning on staying in the car the whole time, you’re bound to be out in the sun at some point during your road trip. Even if you’re someone who doesn’t burn easily, the sun in Hawaii is extremely strong. We recommend you pack SPF and reapply throughout the day, especially if you’re sweating and swimming. We recommend packing reef-safe sunscreen to help protect Hawaii's oceans and marine life while you're here.
Sun Glasses and/or Hat
Bring a pair of shades or a hat for the drive.
Snacks
Don't worry, you'll pass plenty of local eateries along the tour route so you can try some tasty Hawaiian cuisine, but these are long days and no one wants to explore when they’re hangry. Pack a few snacks to hold you over until you reach the awesome restaurants we feature in our tour highlights!
Cash
You won’t need much, but there are a few spots where you’ll have to pay for parking or restaurants that are cash only.
Car Charger
We’re so excited that you’ve chosen to tour Hawaii with Shaka Guide. To make sure we can escort you throughout your journey, you’ll want to have a car charger to keep us fueled and ready to go! We recommend a USB cable so that you can connect to the car's stereo too.
Phone Mount
This isn’t essential, but it will be helpful as you’re driving. If you don’t want to pack one in your luggage you can stop by a nearby Target or Walmart -- they cost about $5.
Camera
If you don’t bring anything else, bring this. You're going to make memories that will last a life time!
This may seem like a lot, but remember - you get to pick what you'd like to do. Tailor the packing list based on your interests, time constraints and packing limitations.
