Driving towards Oahu’s north shore, you’ll begin to see lots of roadside restaurants, food trucks, and fruit stands.
Trying out the delicious, or ono, local food as it's said in Hawaiian, is definitely an important part of the experience.
For all my foodies out there you have found the right place to be. Let go over some of the best ono kine grinds (delicious foods) on the North Shore of Oahu.
1. Giovanni Shrimp Truck
@Giovannisshrimptruck
- 66-472 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712
- Open Daily: 10:30 am- 5 pm
There are many different shrimp trucks to try on Oahu but Giovanni’s has become one of the staples of the North Shore!
Others might claim that less touristy shrimp trucks such as Fumi’s Kahuku Shrimp and Big Wave Shrimp serve it up better.
But you’ll have to try them all and get back to us! At Giovanni’s and many other shrimp food trucks, you will find a selection of delicious garlic shrimp, lemon shrimp, or spicy shrimp served over rice with a side salad.
If you're visiting the North Shore, shrimp trucks are definitely a must.
2. Kono’s North Shore
@KonosHawaii
- 66-250 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712
- Open Daily: 7 am-2:30 pm
Kono’s has several locations on the island including on the North Shore! They are best known for their:
- Kalua pork plates
- breakfast bombers
- hand-crafted milkshakes
- freshly squeezed lime
- lemon juice, and much more!
Without a doubt, we recommend the Kalua Pig Nachos served with guava barbeque sauce.

3. Haleiwa Beach House
- 62-540 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712

As you can probably tell, seafood is hugely popular in Hawaii and poke is no exception.
Beach House is a great place to try for lunch or dinner where they have delicious poke, ahi wontons, tuna club, and many more seafood platters.
But don’t worry if you don’t like seafood there are also many local favorites such as loco-moco, kalua-pork sandwiches, or simply a cheeseburger.
They also have amazing handcrafted cocktails and if you're on Oahu a good mai-tai is sure to hit the spot.
Make sure to check out this restaurant, they are notably known for their breezy atmosphere.
4. The Beet Box Cafe
- 66-437 Kamehameha Hwy Ste.104
- Haleiwa, Hawaii 96712
- Open Daily 9 am-3 pm
Now we understand that not everybody here eats meat. Beet Box Cafe is great for our vegan and vegetarian friends. This cafe serves breakfast and lunch.
Here you will find banana oat pancakes, yogi bowls, veggie burgers, burritos, and much more.
The Beet Box is known for using fresh and local produce for most of its platters. This is a great healthy alternative and very highly recommended!
PRO TIP If you visit during the weekend ask for their special of the week which will not be on the menu.

Another fan favorite of North Shore is Matsumoto Shave Ice. Now this Shave Ice is different from the mainland.
Here you can add ice cream, condensed milk, mochi, azuki beans, and much more.
There are many different shave ice places on the island but Matsumoto Shave Ice is definitely a unique experience.
You get to watch them make your shave ice as you order.
Now be warned, it is a rare sight to see Matsumoto without a huge line but we promise it’s worth the wait!
6. Sunrise Shack

Another refreshing little spot to check out is Sunrise Shack. Here you can find a healthier option of smoothies, açai bowls, and much more.

The bakery has an array of different pastries but they are best known for their chocolate haupia pie (chocolate coconut pie)!
Don’t miss out on their delicious desserts but they also serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner plates!
If you want a little taste of everything try their Mixed Plate (Shoyu Chicken, Mahi Mahi, and Garlic Shrimp)!
It also would be a good idea to stop by some of the souvenir shops along your way to the north shore.
