Kahuku Shrimp Trucks: Famous Hawaiian Shrimp
Listen to audio sample:
Kahuku all started out with just a few trucks that sourced their shrimp from the nearby fresh water ponds. Then came the growing fame - and demand. There are now at least a dozen trucks and roadside restaurants - all claiming to sell this world-famous Kahuku shrimp. The best part about the food trucks: they are all pretty good, and around the same price. If you're not a big fan of shrimp, there are other options in Kahuku that serve up burgers, lunch plates, and even a little farm-to-table type of café serving up some healthy dishes.
The most popular flavors of Kahuku shrimp are garlic shrimp, coconut shrimp and spicy shrimp. All are good, and just depends on what you like. Just a quick tip: eating shrimp is a hands-on experience, and it can get messy at times! So let us give you some tips. You first need to suck all the delicious juice out before you peel it and eat. Why? Because the shrimp juice is delicious, you don’t want to waste it. Also, it works best to use your hands. But hey, Kahuku shrimp is sooo ono... it’s worth the mess! So remember: suck, peel and eat. Enjoy!
