This campground is located in central La Sal, and has quick access to a number of tralheads. A short walk away sit beautiful views and fishing in the mountain lake. There are vault toilets provided.

This scenic viewpoint looks out over Bull Canyon and Fisher Mesa. You can also find therapod dinosaur footprints leading right up to the edge of the cliff!

From the trailhead for Castleton Tower trail you can get a great view of the Castleton Towers.

From the Fisher Towers campground and trailhead, you can get a great view of some of the Fisher towers like the Titan.

This is a short 0.6 mile round trip walk along a mostly paved path to see the Courthouse Wash rock art panel. Park in the lot on the west side of Courthouse Wash and walk east across the bridge to see the pictographs.

The trailhead to Brumley Arch will be on your right. Look out for the trail sign. Make sure you watch your footing as you go down the steep slope and cross the creek. Take your time on this 2-mile out and back trail. I hope the condition of the trail is great for you today. The Winter Recreation area is just down the road. After you are done here, return to the main road and the tour will continue. Have a great time!

Alright, the Castle Valley Overlook is coming up in a minute, and will be on your left. This is a must stop on our drive, as you will enjoy a sweeping, panoramic view of the Colorado Plateau below La Sal. You will also be able to see The Porcupine Rim, Castle Valley, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. 

From the parking lot, you will find the Kokopelli Trail that will intersect with the Jimmy Keen trail. If you don’t feel up for the full 10-mile combined trip, just hike as far as you like to enjoy the meandering path with its flowers, butterflies, and beautiful views.

Do you see the huge rock structure in front of us to our right? That’s Parriott Mesa. The summit stands at over 6000 ft, or 1800 meters, in elevation. It looms over the beginning of castle valley like a guard, stretching more than 1.5 miles long and a 1/3 of a mile wide. This sandstone summit  is another magnet for climbers. Parriott Mesa is named after Dale M. Parriott, a settler and rancher here in Moab who died in the 1950s.

Now as we make a turn ahead, we will be coming up on the Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage. This little museum is part of Red Cliffs Ranch, where many films have been shot. Movie-making in this area dates back to the 1940s when John Ford began filming his legendary Westerns, such as “Wagon Master” and “Rio Grande”, at the ranch. Many other classic Westerns were filmed here as well. This includes: Rock Hudson’s “Taza, Son of Cochise”, “Warlock,” featuring Henry Fonda and Anthony Quinn, and “The Comancheros,” starring John Wayne. More recently, it has been used as the filming location for Geronimo, City Slickers, Thelma and Louise, and more than 100 commercials.

In just a minute, you will see the Canyon wall to your right open up a little, becoming a small valley. This is where the Salt Wash joins the Colorado River. 

And guess what? If you have a kayak, you can follow the Salt Wash here upstream. After many miles of twisting canyons, eventually you’ll pop out near Delicate Arch, which is inside Arches National Park. But mind you, the stream is salty and undrinkable, hence the name, Salt Wash. So although taking this route might save you some pocket change on paying the National Park entrance fee, I don’t actually recommend you going this way. But it’s fun to think about right?
