How to Take a Shaka Guide Tour
Aloha and thank you for downloading the Shaka Guide app. Please watch the video below to help you start your downloaded Shaka Guide tour.
1. Select a Tour
Now that you have the tour purchased and downloaded you’re ready to take the tour. Go ahead and select your tour and then click on 'Take The Tour.'
You’ll be escorted through a series of tips to get the tour working on your phone and connected to your cars stereo. We recommend going through each of these in detail so you don’t miss a step.
This is a good time to connect your phone’s audio to the car stereo system. This will allow you hear audio from your car’s speakers as you drive. Check out our tutorial here for how to connect to your car stereo.
2. Select a Starting Point
This final screen gives you a list of ‘tour starting points.’ Select the starting point nearest you to get directions to it.
The next screen gives you the option to get directions to the starting point on the tour. You will need data for these directions to work. Tap “OK” to begin the on-screen navigation. If you don’t have data, just click “Join the tour in progress” at the bottom of the screen.
3. Find the Green Flag Icon
If you choose to opt out of the starting point directions, look for the green flag icon located on the map - this flag indicates where the start of the tour is. You will need to go to this spot on the map if you want to experience the tour from the beginning.
If not, you can just go to the nearest point on the map and start your tour from there. Once you’ve reached any point on the map, you’ll hear an audio track play automatically. These audio points will give you turn-by-turn directions as well as fun stories as you drive or walk along your tour route. Reminder to follow the circles on the map in numerical order.
There are a couple other tips we have to help you get the most of our offline map. If you tap on the circular ‘tools’ icon, you can hear the tutorial again,
OR you can also tap ‘choose a tour starting point’ to select another route that might work better for you. This is the same tour- but with renumbered locations based on different starting points.
There are also help items here to help troubleshoot any problems you may have. For example, our circle island tour has three starting points, one in waikiki, one in Ko’olina, and another in Turtle bay. It’s different for every tour.
If you go to the list view, you can see the full list of tour points on the map in numerical order. If you tap on one of these points, you can read an audio snippet and view a picture about that tour point.
When you make a stop at any point in the tour, simply toggle off the green toggle button. This helps save your battery life.
When you’re ready to start the tour back up again, you can tap on the ‘resume tour’ button located on the ‘tours’ tab of the app
This screen is a quick start to double-check your audio after your a stop. Just click the play button to test audio. If you hear it, it is good to go. Then just click “All good, lets go!”
If for whatever reason you are still having trouble with the app. Feel free to reach out to our Tech support by chatting with us from within the app,
OR send us an email, if you need immediate help you can call our tech support number.
One more quick tip, along the tour route there are hikes, beaches, viewpoints, and restaurants that you may want to get more information about. Feel free to do this under the “Highlights” section of the app. You can locate it by going back, then just go to the tour page and scroll down. It is called Tour Highlights. Click in to browse various categories, and view details about each highlight item.
We hope this tutorial has been helpful to you. Now just sit back, relax, and enjoy the tour!
