Located on Hwy 199 just across from Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park Campground, the Hiouchi Visitor center is a great place to grab a park map and tide chart, ask a ranger about trails and current conditions, check out exhibits, and ask about seasonal ranger-led kayak tours on the Smith River. The center is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm spring through fall and Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm in the winter.

Stout Grove is definitely one of the must-do hikes in the park! The easy half-mile trail meanders through towering redwood giants, some as high as 300 feet! Located along the shores of scenic Smith River, the grove can be reached from Howland Hill Road or, in the summer, through Jedediah Smith Campground via a seasonal footbridge. There are vault toilets at the Howland Hill Road parking area. A Day Use pass is required to park at the campground.

Prepare to be amazed! The Grove of Titans in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park features a beautiful grove of massive, ancient redwoods over 2000 years old! View these giants from an elevated metal walkway that brings you close to the trees while protecting their fragile root system. The grove can be accessed from about halfway up Howland Hill Road via the Mill Creek Trailhead and is 1.5 mi/2 km roundtrip. There are vault toilets and limited parking across the road from the trailhead.

Enderts Beach Road offers travelers access to two beaches and a spectacular overlook. Just over two miles, the paved road first goes to Crescent Beach then continues on up to Crescent Beach Overlook and the trailhead for Enderts Beach. RVs/Trailers not advised past Crescent Beach Picnic Area.

Located 15 miles south of Crescent City, the Yurok Loop Trail offers stunning views of crashing waves, giant sea stacks, and the endless Pacific. While this trail does not feature redwood trees, there's plenty of breathtaking coastal scenery to make this hike worthwhile! Park at the Lagoon Creek Picnic Area and follow the Coastal Trail along the rugged coast for half a mile. Then, at the intersection, return inland on the Yurok Loop Trail which wanders through Douglas-fir and Sitka spruce woods to complete the one-mile loop. If you have time, consider extending your hike another mile total to include Hidden Beach. Instead of returning inland on the Yurok Loop Trail, at the intersection, keep straight on the Coastal Trail. After about half a mile, when the trail veers left, you'll see an unmarked spur path ahead to the right. The short path leads to this secluded cove where massive piles of driftwood and giant sea stacks dot the shore. For the best experience, come at low tide so you have more beach to explore. Remember to keep your eyes on the surf to avoid being surprised by sneaker waves.

The Klamath River Radar Station B-71, is a rare, surviving World War II early-warning radar station. Modern radar was a very new technology in the 1940s and radar stations like B-71 were one of the first steps towards today's more sophisticated early warning radar defense network.

Located in Prairie Creek State Park and just off the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, this is an easy walk to stunning old-growth redwood trees. A viewing platfrom and interpretive signage is located around the "Big Tree". The walk to the Big Tree is less than 200 yards (100 meters) from the parking area. This location is popular with visitors, tour groups or charter busses that have less than half an hour to experience any redwoods. Limited RV and trailer parking is available. Detailed trail information and audio boxes are located at the trailhead so people can hear from Yurok elders about redwood trees. Vault toilets are located at the parking area.

Prairie Creek Redwoods Visitor Center, six miles north of Orick at the southern end of the Newton B Drury scenic parkway, is the perfect jumping-off point for a number of epic hikes including the short accessible Revelation Trail and the three-mile Karl Knapp and Cathedral Trees Trail Loop through lush redwood forests. Make sure to check out the exhibits, chat with a ranger, pick up a trail map, and visit the iconic Big Tree Wayside just down the road. And keep your eyes peeled for Roosevelt Elk that enjoy hanging out in the prairie by the visitor center. The center is open from 9 am to 5 pm spring through fall and from 10 am to 4 pm in the winter.

Hiking through Fern Canyon will make you feel like you've wandered into a Lost World--and getting there is half the adventure! The Fern Canyon Trail trailhead is at the end of Davison Road, a long, windy dirt road complete with potholes and stream crossings. From the trailhead, it's a short walk to the entrance of this prehistoric-looking canyon. Once you enter, you'll be walking through a creek bed and over fallen logs between fern-covered walls reaching 50 to 80 feet high! Make sure to bring waterproof shoes--your feet will get wet! You can hike through the canyon then return through the forest on the one-mile loop trail. Or, you can simply go in and out of the canyon the same way, experiencing the mystery and magic of this primeval canyon twice. Day Use fee and seasonal parking permit are required to access the trailhead on Davison Road. Apply for the free permit online by midnight the day before. RVs/trailers not advised on Davison Road past Elk Meadows.

Located in Redwood National Park, the Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail is an easy 1.5 mi (2.5 km) loop walk through a majestic stand of ancient giants. The wide path makes this the perfect hike for families or groups to enjoy the wonders of this redwood forest together. Part way along, you'll see the marker and place where the grove was dedicated to Lady Bird Johnson, former first lady and champion of conservation. In the summers, catch one of the ranger-led walks that begin in the parking lot. To get to the grove from Hwy 101, take the exit for Bald Hills Road just north of Orick. Three miles up the narrow and windy road, you'll see the parking area for Lady Bird Johnson Grove on the right. Note: Parking in the lot is limited, and cars are not allowed to park on Bald Hills Road. RVs/trailers not advised on Bald Hills Road.

You'll find park information, maps, several exhibits, and helpful rangers ready to answer your questions. There are picnic tables as well as trails behind the center that lead to a sandy beach. It's a great place to watch the sunset! The center is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm spring through fall, and Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm in the winter.
