This was the BEST guide for the road to Hana! Very informative and enjoyable to listen to. We learned so much!!

We had two days to get the most of out of our visit and Shaka was amazing. If it weren’t for this app we would’ve missed soooo much, would’ve been unable to manage our time well and never gotten the amazing stories. We LOVED the Kauai tours and did them all. The back stories were great and it was also helpful to actually hear how the towns/roads were pronounced. So helpful!The app was user friendly, just picked up right where we were and was able to use CarPlay to see the map as we went along. Highly recommend. We will be using it on other trips now too. Well designed and the narrator was amazing. So fun!

My husband and I discovered Shaka in our honeymoon in Hawaii and immediately knew this was the best way to experience parks and scenic drives. We have gotten a new Shaka every time we have traveled since and cannot recommend it enough! It’s insightful, helpful, fun and interesting! We love the advice about where to stop and where to drive past, we love the history lessons and information about the area or park and are always surprised at our accurate and enjoyable our time is using Shaka. We never felt like we missed an opportunity or viewpoint, we learned and used some of our favorite trails and sights solely because of Shaka. Our experiences without using it would not have come close to how amazing they needed up because of Shaka!!

I couldn’t recommend this enough. This was super great! It was educational and entertaining at the same time. We are a family of four with two daughters, a 17yo and a 20yo, and we all loved it. Used it mainly for our Road to Hana and our Sunrise and Sunset Haleakala trips. 100% highly recommend!

UPDATE: Based on the developer’s response, I updated my review from 4 to 5 stars. My concern was not a software change, but a deliberate choice based on their desire to make the journey around Lake Tahoe scenic and safe. Thank you! Last year (2025) we loved the Shaka Guide we bought for the Redwoods in California. This year, I bought the guide for the Lake Tahoe area. The content was excellent and very helpful, but one new change confused us and made it almost impossible to use. The guide would only play in numerical order for the various points of interest. It would not reverse itself based on direction of travel. Last year, it would switch itself whether we were driving northbound or southbound. I had to manually choose the info to play when we were going “backwards” and we missed several points because of the confusion. Of course it’s possible I was using the app wrong. 🤦‍♀️ If that’s the case and there’s a setting I should’ve changed, it wasn’t obvious in the settings. Despite this, I will still recommend Shaka Guides to friends and family.

We have been waiting for years to get to Hawaii! The Shaka guide was the best way to see all the sights and feel like we didn’t miss things, but go at our own pace. It was wonderful!!

Oh my goodness…so much to see and do! I wish there were more hours in the day! Narration was very personal. It was a perfect day! I can’t wait to try others tours!

Money well spent. We had such a nice time driving with Shaka as our audio guide along the Road to Hana. Also loved the stories told of Hawaiian history. Highly recommended and Mahalo Shaka! 🤙

We always explore everywhere we go and this really made things easier, the local flare music was great to listen to in between stops, and the stories and history really was interesting! Great app.. check out the road to Hana when in Hawaii…. It’s worth the $20!
