Pull into the large parking area by the Lassen Peak Trailhead for a view of the world's largest plug dome volcano and namesake of this park.
You can take pictures of the summit from the parking area--or you can climb to the top of this sleeping, 10,500-ft volcano.
With an elevation gain of almost 2,000 feet, the trail is not for the faint of heart. If you’re interested in tackling this 5 mile-round trip hike, make sure to read the information board at the trailhead for important trail and safety information. Pay close attention to what it says about altitude sickness.
Before you leave, tap the map marker called "Four Types of Volcanoes" to hear a bonus track about the different kinds of volcanoes found in the park.
