The hale is one of the first stops we’ll make on our tour and it’s open to the general public. The History Center reflects the unique legal and judicial history of the Hawaiian islands from the days of kapu law to the present. 

As their website explains: “From Monarchy to statehood, Aliiolani Hale has faithfully served the people of Hawai`i. Kings and queens have walked its halls. Revolutions have been lost and won around it. Sensational cases have been tried in its courtrooms. Since 1874, Supreme Court rulings affecting the future of Hawai`i and its people have been decided within its walls.”

If you’d like to go inside and take a stroll through the free museum, the hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (excluding holidays).

At Kawaiaha’o Church you have the chance to explore the historic grounds where Kings and Queens once worshiped. On the tour, you’ll learn all about the fascinating history of this church, including its extraordinary building materials and craftsmanship.

This is the official seat of government and home to Mayor's office as well the city council. There are often various events and art exhibitions going on here that are free and open to the public. Open Mondays through Fridays from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.

This awesome library was originally funded by Andrew Carnegie and was built in 1913. It’s now registered in the National Register of Historic Places. The building serves as the flagship to the Hawaii State Library system, one of the largest in the entire United States. This particular branch is home to over half a million books and is open to the public.

The Iolani Palace is the highlight of our tour today and you’ll see why once it falls into eyesight. Standing proud since 1882, this royal palace is home to some of Hawaii’s richest history. The Iolani Palace served as a royal residence from the time it was built through to the last of Hawaii’s reigning monarchs when the Monarchy was overthrown in 1893. It’s the only royal residence in the United States!

Self-led audio tours of Iolani Palace cost $25 for adults, $20 for teens and $10 for children.
