How to Take a Shaka Guide Tour

To use Shaka Guide, you only need to these 3 steps:

Download the Shaka Guide app
Purchase your tour or tours
Download your Shaka Guide tour or tours onto your device.

How To Start Your Shaka Guide Tour!

Connect your phone to the car's stereo for the best experience - here's how.
Open the Shaka Guide app
Go to the My Stuff section and tap on the tour you’d like to go on
- Download or update your tour if you see the option to make sure you have the latest info)
Once downloaded, tap on “Begin Tour”
Tap on "Start Tour Now"
Tap on "Allow Notifications" and “While using the app” when you see the pop-up confirmation.
Tap on “Let’s Go”
Tap on “Got It”
Tap on “Yes” to get directions to the starting point.
Tap “Not Now” if you prefer not to go to the starting point but instead join the tour from another point in the tour route.
If you chose “Yes” in the previous pop-up, tap on the starting point you prefer on the next pop-up.
Click on “Got it” and the app will open either Google Maps or Apple Maps depending on your choice.
After that, follow the directions to the tour starting point. When you reach the starting point, exit Google Maps/Apple Maps and go back to the Shaka Guide app.
Follow the numbers in chronological order.
Enjoy your Shaka Guide tour!

We'll guide you to the tour starting point using Apple or Google Maps.
Once you reach the tour starting point the Shaka Guide app will automatically pop up and the tour will start.

How to Delete A Shaka Guide Tour!

There are times when you would want to delete a tour from your phone. If you’ve already taken the tour and would like to recover some of your phone’s storage space, follow these steps

Open the Shaka Guide app.
Tap on My Stuff
Locate the tour you want to delete or having trouble with and swipe left
Confirm to continue

How to Restart the Tour?

If you’re currently on a tour and on the map screen or viewing the tour in Browse mode and you want to restart the tour, follow these steps:

Tap on the Settings icon in the top right of the tour map screen
Tap on Direction to Start the tour

You can also do this:

Turn the Tour Switch at the bottom right side of the screen to OFF
Tap on the Back arrow button in the top left corner of the screen
Go back to My Stuff.
Tap on your tour
Tap on Begin Tour
Tap on Start Tour Now
Follow the next on-screen instructions to start your tour

If for any reason you would like to restart your current tour, tap on the Settings icon in the top right of the tour map screen and then tap on Direction to Start the tour.

How to Switch to Another Tour?

If you’re currently on a tour and on the map screen or viewing the tour in Browse mode and you want to switch to another tour, follow these steps:

Turn the Tour Switch at the bottom right side of the screen to OFF
Tap on the Back arrow button in the top left corner of the screen
Go back to My Stuff.
Tap on the tour you would like to switch to or start next

If for any reason you would like to restart your current tour, tap on the Settings icon in the top right of the tour map screen and then tap on Direction to Start the tour

Where to Find the Tour Highlights

Go to My Stuff and tap on your tour.
On the tour details page, scroll down to Tour Stops
You can also tap on Begin Tour and tap on either Browse Mode or Start Tour Now
When you get to the tour map screen, tap on “Highlights” in the small floating window at the bottom of the screen

You can tap on each Tour Stop or Highlights and learn more about the tour highlight, Locate where it is on the island and get driving directions to that specific location.

Other Tips

◦ When you’re on the tour map screen, there are 4 icons on the right side of the screen you can use to get more information or change app features

Use the Search 🔎 to look up tour stops, highlights or audio narration. Use this option to see more information about tour stops, highlights or audio points and get driving directions for your searched term.
Use the Settings ⚙️to see Map Legends, get driving directions to the Start of the tour, Contact Support or turn Background Music on and off.
Use the Map Marker ↗️ to center the map on your location and to change the map orientation from Static/Fixed to Rotating based on which direction you are facing
Use the Music 🎵 to turn Background Music on and off

◦ Also on the tour map screen, swipe up or tap on the up arrow in the small pop-up window to see a list view of the tour stops and the tour highlights.

Important Reminders

◦ When you make a stop at any point in the tour, tap on the Tour Switch to turn it off. This helps save your battery life. When you’re ready to get back on your tour, tap on the Tour Switch again to turn the tour back on.

◦ Always double-check your tour audio after you make a stop. Just click the play button on any of the tour stops to test audio. If you hear audio and narration, you’re good to go. If not, we recommend force quitting all running apps from your phone reopening the Shaka Guide app, and resume your tour.

◦ If you’re using the app with Apple CarPlay and it stops working, quit all running apps, restart your phone, restart your car, resync your phone and your Apple CarPlay device, and then resume your Shaka Guide tour.

◦ You'll see ✪ icons around the map - these are tour highlights. These aren't necessarily stops on the tour, but nearby recommendations for things to do, places to eat, and more. Feel free to check them out! We won't guide you there but just return to the route to continue the tour in progress.
